ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Northern student Summer Carlson presented her research on the parasites of South Dakota birds at the Legislative Poster Session on Feb. 29 in Pierre, S.D.

Carlson, a junior biology and environmental science major who is also pursuing a minor in chemistry, attended the session along with Northern Assistant Professor of Biology Eric Pulis.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C After 10 years of writing in between classes, Dr. Keun Lee has published his first book, ¡°The Economics of Keynes and Uncertainty in Theory.¡±

Lee, professor of economics, got the idea for the book from his class on macroeconomics.

¡°Over the years I¡¯ve been teaching this course, I realized that what we teach in class is not what John Maynard Keynes wrote in his book, ¡®The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money,¡¯¡± said Lee. ¡°I was hoping someone would write a book about the difference between what we teach and what Keynes actually said¡­

Aberdeen, S.D. ¨CThe South Dakota Jazz Festival Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb 29, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater at Northern State University.

The concert will feature performances by the Two O¡¯Clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Northern Professor of Music Dr. Grant Manhart. Guest artists will include local jazz musician Ron Parker, piano; Northern Assistant Professor of Music Fritz Hemke, saxophones; and other local talent.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) invites you to a concert celebrating the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at Northern State University. Christopher Stanichar, assistant professor of music/director of the AUCS, will lead the orchestra.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Northern alum Julie Melius Dvorak is taking the bench in South Dakota¡¯s 5th Circuit Court, which consists of Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk Marshall, McPherson, Roberts, Spink, and Walworth counties. She was appointed by Governor Kristi Noem at the beginning of January. Prior to the appointment, Dvorak was an attorney in Aberdeen at Siegel, Barnett & Schutz.

Dvorak had been working in the legal field for 15 years before she started thinking of becoming a judge.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Over 200 high school students from across South Dakota will be at Northern State University for the sixth annual Educators Rising South Dakota State Conference on Feb. 28. The event is designed for students who are interested in becoming educators and are involved with their school¡¯s Educators Rising chapter. At the conference, students will have the opportunity to engage in professional development while networking with peers from across the state, exchanging ideas, and sharing resources.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Internationally acclaimed Ruta Sepetys will return to campus for Northern State University¡¯s annual Larry and Julie Poeppel Family Common Read Lecture on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. In 2017, Sepetys delivered the lecture on her novel ¡°Salt to the Sea.¡±
